History/Development

25 years on the market – almost 100 years of experience in plastic

KTS Kunststoff Technik Schmölln GmbH is a mid-sized plastic processing company established in 1991. Whilst the company's history may still be relatively recent, there has been a tradition of plastic processing and toolmaking in the Schmölln region dating back to the 1920s.

Starting with the traditional production of buttons, initially from vegetable ivory, horn, wood and later thermosetting plastic, which made Schmölln famous worldwide at the start of the 20th century, a wealth of potential knowledge of plastic processing has accumulated in Schmölln, which still shapes KTS today. From the very earliest beginnings, AdCapital AG (formerly Berliner Elektro Holding AG) supported KTS as a shareholder in its development. The earliest years of the company were shaped by a difficult period of market entry and acceptance. However, the acquisition of reputable new customers and the completion of challenging reference projects led to the company's organic growth and to the appropriation of specific knowledge and expertise that went beyond simple injection-moulded components. The aim of the company's development is to continue to position itself as a complete provider for plastic solutions and focus the company's growth on high-quality products. This development is supported by the ongoing expansion of process automation and intelligent production control systems.

We recognised this and so, for many years, have maintained a close-knit network with associations, as well as regional companies, universities and research institutions.

GKV

The GKV is the umbrella association for the German plastics processing industry. As the umbrella association, it brings together and represents the common interests of its sponsoring organisations, acting as the mouthpiece towards politics and the public.

The plastic processing industry has an annual turnover of € 59.8 billion and employs some 316,000 employees in over 2,853 companies and is thus one of the most important business sectors in Germany.

The sector, which is dominated by mid-sized companies, stands out on account of its outstanding innovative prowess and a diverse product range. Plastics materials are processed to produce packaging, construction materials, technical components, semi-finished products, consumer goods and many other products.

TecPart

TecPart - the German Association for Technical Plastics Products e.V. is the lobby group for the manufacturers of technical plastics products towards the public and politics, and also sits on national and European bodies.

The members are highly specialist experts in injection moulding technology and other plastics processing processes, and design, construct and produce technical plastics components and the tools that produce them. Customers and purchasers include the automotive, electrical and medical technology industries.

The association is synonymous with a growth industry with a future. TecPart is one of the sponsoring organisations of the Umbrella Association of the Plastics Processing Industry e.V. (GKV).

Pro-K

pro-K brings together and represents the interests of plastic semi-finished and consumer products. Under the slogan "Plastic – Material of the 21st century", pro-K has made it its task to highlight the diverse applicational possibilities, the enormous potential and the properties of plastics, to actively promote the image of plastic and its products and support its members in competitive situations. pro-K is involved on a national and European level in educational policy and vocational education, applicational technology, business management, standardisation, technical marketing, market observation, trademark protection, public relations work and representing companies’ interests.

The regional network for high precision in mould-making and injection moulding technology brings together the knowledge and expertise from Thuringian universities, mould-makers, simulation service providers and companies from the plastics processing, laser technology and automation sectors.
